Accelerating Schneider Electric’s Transition to Carbon Neutrality

Image
As sustainability leaders from around the world gather at the One Planet Summit, we’re reminded of the urgency of the climate crisis and inspired by those who, together, are rising to meet the challenge head on. Two years ago, the Paris Climate Agreement gave us all a clearer understanding of what’s at stake. Limiting global temperature rise this century to less than two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels is essential if we are to avoid widespread, disastrous ecological problems. It was at COP21 in 2015 where we first presented our 10 sustainability commitments in order to build carbon neutrality within Schneider Electric’s ecosystem and to accurately quantify the carbon impact of all our major customer projects. So, as we meet once again to collaborate in the fight against climate change, I’m excited to provide more details about Schneider’s strategy to become carbon neutral by 2030. Schneider has joined RE100 and EP100 — two global, collaborative initiatives of infl...

Aligning Sustainability Goals with Climate Science

A new movement has begun, with more than 300 companies coming together to lead the fight against climate change. The need for a low-carbon future has become undeniable, a conclusion supported by the Paris Climate Agreement. The expansion of an unchanged energy system, with anything close to current levels of carbon-dioxide (CO 2 ) intensity, would likely lead to global warming in excess of 4 degrees Celsius by the end of the century [1] — a crisis scientists agree would cause widespread and disastrous ecological problems. Governments around the world have sensed the urgency of the climate crisis and have accelerated their transitions to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources and practices. Moreover, the agreement is having an impact that extends far deeper than just updated government regulations. Organizations and businesses have gained a better understanding and a more defined call to action for the mitigation of climate change, and leading companies are now factoring climate c...
