How EN 17267 further helps organizations design and measure energy data collection

Image
Newly published EN 17267, “Energy measurement and monitoring plan — Principles for energy data collection,” now complements existing standard ISO 50001 §6.6 (“Planning for collection of energy data”). It addresses the needs and the questions most often expressed by organizations: The main needs expressed by organizations 2. The main questions expressed by organizations EN 17267 is helping organizations design and implement a measuring plan through: – A concrete, 6-stage process – Operational recommendations – A pragmatic, 3-level approach (base, medium, high, related to the organization needs) Read our previous posts to learn more about IEC TR 63213, IEC 61557-12 , ISO 50001 ed 2 , and other EE standards . Schneider Electric’s global student competition: Schneider Go Green We are the 2019 Schneider Go Green finalists from China, and we are here to share our story throughout the global student competition and experience during the 2019 edition. We hope that our experiences encourage you to register for the 2020 edition. It was the experience of a lifetime and we hope that many of you can participate as well! Innovation Summit Barcelona- Go Green finals “I bet on a bottle of beer, you’ll love Barcelona when you leave!” On my first night in Spain, the enthusiastic taxi driver shouted to me with a smile when he dropped me off at the hotel. The next day, the organizers arranged a tour of Barcelona for us students, and we went to La Sagrada Familia Cathedral. We not only entered the church to enjoy the spectacular architectural design but also went to the data center in the church to record and analyze the data of tourists. We saw many Schneider products for this solution, while the prof...

Upgrade or Replace Switchgear? 4 questions to help you identify your best choice

Image
When older breakers become unreliable and maintenance costs rise, electrical engineers face a choice: replace aging switchgear or modernize it with an upgrade. In many cases, an upgrade is the best choice because it costs less and requires little downtime, yet an upgrade brings modern capabilities and improves system performance. Each power system and situation is unique, but the challenges of aging electrical equipment can be addressed without total replacement. Start assessing your best choice by asking these four questions: 1. Do you need to minimize planned downtime? Every system operator wants less downtime, but some mission-critical operations strive to minimize planned downtime as much as possible. A replacement will require more downtime because it requires the removal of old switchgear infrastructure. By contrast, an upgrade requires minimal planned downtime because the existing structure remains intact. 2. Is finding budget for the project and justifying the expenditure pr...

Growing adoption of renewables is shifting strategies of Oil and Gas Majors

Image
The world is moving towards a cleaner energy future amid rising investments in renewable energy, which over the long term, will replace the demand for coal and have the potential to impact the global demand for oil. Such phenomenon influences the mid- to long-term strategy and vision of Oil & Gas Majors, due to – including but not limited to – the following elements: Pressure from shareholders, investors, governments and other stakeholders; New emissions regulations and energy policies such as Paris climate accord; Tackling energy security concerns in the context of sustainable development; Talent attraction and retainment, giving the willingness of the younger generation to work for more environmentally friendly companies with longer-term growth potentials; Evolution of urban mobility and rise of fuel-efficient electric vehicles (EVs). To address these external elements and be aligned with the energy market trends, Oil & Gas Majors have started to increase their ex...
