The Future of Design and Collaboration

Image
Airline travel took 68 years to reach 50 million users where the internet achieved that in just 7. The same way we have seen the speed of technology adoption accelerate is happening across every industry. Between 2007 and 2017 the world’s largest companies completely changed. The future of design and collaboration is also changing. Increases in computer capabilities and miniaturization of devices change the way Designers and Specifiers make decisions. Whether it’s going beyond computers as a tool (CAD) , using Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR) , 3D and 4D printing, or collaborating via the cloud get insight from our future of design & collaboration infographic below. Consulting Engineers , collaborate with us to get more done with dedicated tools, resources and technical assistance.   The post The Future of Design and Collaboration appeared first on Schneider Electric Blog . Why Brick-and-Mortar Retail is Quickly Establishing Leadership in Edge Computing

Few industries feel the disruption of new digitization-driven business models more than traditional brick-and-mortar retailers. Although 90 percent of worldwide retail sales still occur in physical stores, a recent Deloitte industry report concluded that digital interactions influence 56 cents of every dollar spent there. Amazon and other online retail business models are gaining market share and making it difficult for many traditional retailers to compete.  These challenging circumstances force change across retail organizations. Those who are managing to grow in this changing environment offer customers innovative in-store technology-driven experiences that capture the simplicity of Amazon.com-like interfaces while providing additional layers of personal service. Many brick-and-mortar retailers are investing aggressively in compute power located closer to the buyer, a notion that has come to be known as edge computing . Whereas technology within a physical retail storefront ha...

Remote Monitoring Lets You Manage Your Data Center at Your Fingertips

Image
I’ve been using my mobile banking app for several years now and I have to say, it’s a time saver. Think about what you had to do 10 years ago to deposit a check… get your keys, hop in your car, drive to the nearest bank branch (hope that it’s open), walk in, fill out a deposit slip, wait in line, and ask the teller to deposit your check. Today, I deposit checks and pay bills, whether I’m at home or away, using my smart phone. This is how easy it should be to monitor your data centers. Yet, many data center managers depend on a specific PC, with a VPN login, in order to log into a data center monitoring system. Avoiding these hassles is one of the benefits to digital data center remote monitoring solutions that allow you to check on the health of your data center from the comfort of your own home. Technology Trends Seen from the Expert I wrote a White Paper 237   reviewing this topic in hopes of informing data center managers how technology trends are coming together to improve t...

Top 5 Takeaways from Datacloud Europe 2018

Image
At Datacloud Europe 2018 in Monaco – as both a participant and exhibitor – I noticed a strong sense of positivity amongst the attendees, and for good reason: growth and fundamentals in the industry are strong. Additionally, innovation is abundant. I heard examples of companies using artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to help run more efficient operations. Let me recap some of the other highlights I took away from the show. 1. Augmented Reality is Getting Real in Data Centers From spending time in the Schneider Electric booth and speaking with visitors, augmented reality (AR) technology came up in conversation and we discussed how it might be applied in data centers. As most data center operators know, human error is one of the top causes of outages, so anything we can do to help minimize user error is a good thing. The Schneider Electric solution we demonstrated was an iPad and AR tool that walked through...

Sustainability and Power Stability Determine the Ultimate Success of the World’s Biggest Football Tournament

Image
Mega sporting events, such as the world’s biggest football tournament, also known as “soccer” in the United States, capture the attention of the entire globe. In fact, over 3 million spectators are expected to attend planned events that will be spread across 12 stadiums in Russia, this year’s football tournament host country. Another estimated 3 billion fans will be watching on TV, will live stream via the Internet or will listen on the radio. Events like global football competitions allow fans to watch the best players in the world pit their world class skills against one another while representing their nation on the playing field. As such, the athletes, organizers and fans will depend on a stable power supply to make sure the events run as scheduled. Critical Infrastructure is in the Spotlight National pride is on the line and Russia has invested over $10 Billion in infrastructure to make sure that the series of football matches is executed in a world-class fashion when the brig...

Bold ideas for Financing and Regulations to Close the Energy Gap

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 calls for universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services by the year 2030. 1.1 billion people worldwide still have no access to electricity. That’s nearly equivalent to the U.S and European population combined. The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that, unless electrification efforts are further accelerated, by 2030 a total of 674 million people will still be without access to electricity. Though these numbers seem daunting, bold ideas are rapidly driving successes across the globe that show the SDG 7 goal is attainable. New initiatives including government programs, innovative business and financing models, new technologies that enable digital tracking and monitoring of energy assets, and locally-based training programs–are ushering in a new era of access to energy . For example, in Bisanti, Nigeria, Green Village Electricity (GVE) Projects Limited , a local partner of Schneider Electric, succe...

How Connectivity Will Control Everything We Know: Part 1

Image
At SXSW this year, connectivity is more important than ever before as AI, IoT, and edge computing play a bigger role in delivering high-quality video, music, and gaming to consumers each day. With this in mind, film, music and interactive content stand to suffer if connectivity is threatened. In the panel on March 9 at 2pm CT, How Connectivity Will Control Everything We Know , my colleague Ross Johnson, Enterprise Account Executive for Schneider Electric’s cloud, colocation and edge business, will help uncover why these types of computing are so critical to connectivity. In the meantime, however, we sat down with Ross to discuss what audiences can expect to learn from the panel, and how his past experiences position him as a connectivity expert. 1. Your panel at SXSW will focus on connectivity challenges, from an infrastructure perspective. This is not the typical panel that you see at SXSW; can you give us a sense of what inspired you to design this panel? As an Austin native a...
