EFF: How to Roll a Strong Password with 20-Sided Dice and Fandom-Inspired Wordlists

How to Roll a Strong Password with 20-Sided Dice and Fandom-Inspired Wordlists Here’s the not-so-secret recipe for strong passphrases: a random element like dice, a long list of words, and math. And as long as you have the first two, the third takes care of itself. All together, this adds up to diceware , a simple but powerful method to create a passphrase that even the most sophisticated computer could take at least thousands of years to guess.  In short, diceware involves rolling a series of dice to get a number, and then matching that number to a corresponding word on a wordlist. You then repeat the process a few times to create a passphrase consisting of multiple words.  In 2016, EFF debuted a series of wordlists that can be used with five six-sided dice to generate strong passphrases . This year, we’re upping our game. At Dragon Con 2018 in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend, EFF will be testing new wordlists optimized for three 20-sided dice. ...

An end-to-end “smart food program” approach to stay competitive in a newly digitized industry

Image
Thanks to a time-tested supply chain and distribution strategy, when a discrete unit of food, like a tomato, is grown on a farm or in a field, it most often ends up in the hands of the consumer (except for goods that never get sold due to spoilage, loss, or damage). Yet, that tomato’s journey across that supply chain and distribution channel has recently become more complex and the tastes, values, and purchase drivers at the consumer end have proven more difficult to predict. Such marketplace changes and shifting purchasing habits are placing new demands on F&B manufacturer supply chains by making the challenge of producing competitive, profitable, safe and desirable goods more difficult.  In fact, success in this volatile marketplace often depends on integrated, data-rich, technology linkages. These horizontal supply chain connections provide real-time data to F&B manufacturers so that transparency, security, regulatory compliance and reliability are enabled across the su...

Machine Builders Take Initial Steps Towards Digitization-Driven Support Services

Today’s manufacturing environment is facing the challenge of rapid acceleration in both the speed-of-business and in the proliferation of new digitized technologies. These trends are impacting all of society and most workplaces. The amount of change taking place is breathtaking. Innovation is making its presence felt at all levels. Consider the fact that 48 percent of the organizations currently listed as Fortune 500 companies were not on the list in the year 2000. Innovators have displaced traditionalists and those that continue to succeed do so in large part thanks to their ability to reinvent themselves. Many of these technology innovations represent some clear manufacturing industry business growth opportunities. New digitalization tools support machine builders in particular by enhancing their visibility to installed base machine performance information. Cloud-based tools also make it easy to get started in the process of remote monitoring as machines can get linked to the cloud ...
